Buying: start with the right questions
Check the model, size, age and condition. Ask for close-up photos of wear and repairs. For tents, ask about seams, poles and waterproofing. For packs and boots, check fit and measurements. For electronics, ask about batteries, charging and included accessories.
Inspect before you agree
For local pickup, choose a public meeting place and inspect the item before paying. For shipping, agree on the total cost and tracking. Choose a payment method whose protection covers your purchase, and read its terms. Be cautious about pressure to pay quickly or a price that seems implausible.
Selling: show the whole picture
Photograph the item in daylight against a clear background. Include the model label, accessories and any damage. Write a useful title with the brand and model. Explain why you are selling and what is included. Compare similar equipment when setting your price.
Keep the details together
Use the inbox for questions and keep a record of the agreed condition, price and delivery arrangements. Mark a listing sold when the deal is complete. Remove it if it is no longer available.
Know who you are buying from

Something feels wrong?
Stop before paying. Report the listing or conversation and block the account if needed. For a payment dispute, contact the seller and your payment provider. For theft or immediate danger, contact your local authorities.
